No expense spared!Circumstances conspired against us for having a knockout cup last season, but by way of compensation we set up a special one day event for Sunday 14 August. Indolence on my part has delayed this full report of what happened, but here at last is the story of a hot day by the river. Six teams, three pitches, 34 goals, a lot of players and a lot of fun.
We originally had seven entries, but with Brixton Tigers and Forum for the Future both a little short of numbers we allowed the formation for the day of Brixton for the Future and reworked the fixture schedule accordingly.

We realised that that meant every team playing every match, and so made sure that there were plenty of breaks between the short games. Grub was joined by Ian and Richard for refereeing duties while Pete wandered around with bits of paper noting results and scorers. These results, in fact...

MATCH 1

Brixton For the Future 0 Battersea & Hammersmith 3
Clapham VITA 0 Lambeth All Stars 2
South London 0 Franchester 0 (Franchester 1-0 pens)

MATCH 2

Battersea and Hammersmith 2 Clapham VITA 0
Lambeth All Stars 0 Franchester United 0 (Lambeth 1-0 pens)
S London 1 Brixton for the Future 0

Hang about, I can hear you asking, "penalties"? Yes indeed. We decided that every game would have a result to simplify the outcome, so all drawn games would go to a sudden death penalty shoot out. We couldn't afford any of that 21-20 nonsense on our tight timetable, but as you will continue to see that wasn't really an issue.

MATCH 3

South London 1 Battersea & Hammersmith 0
Franchester U 1 Clapham VITA 1 (Franchester 1-0 pens)
Lambeth All Stars 4 Brixton for the Future 1

MATCH 4

Battersea & Hammersmith 3 Lambeth All Stars 0
South London 3 Clapham VITA 2
Brixton for the Future 0 Franchester United 0 (BFTF 1-0 pens)

MATCH 5

Battersea & Hammersmith 3 Franchester United 0
Clapham VITA 1 Brixton for the Future 4
Lambeth All Stars 0 South London 1

So that was that. We finished at about the same time that we originally intended given various little delays and breaks for the heat. Pete calculated the final table  and that's reproduced below:

There were trophies for all at the end, with the leading goalscorer going to Battersea & Hammersmith's TARA DYERSON with 6, while the referees (who again deserve our thanks for their time and effort) awarded the Player of the Tournament to ANNA NORD of Clapham VITA. It was fun, we'll do it again.
